The PAFM summit

For everyone who attends Slippery Rock University and is a part of a Physical Health Education major, Wednesday, October 28th, should be a date you have marked down. This is the day of the PAFM Summit. Once a year, our department does not hold class and instead holds presentations throughout the day that relate to the fields of PAFM. The five fields that we have presenters in are coaching, aquatics, adapted physical activity, outdoor adventure, and fitness. Also, we have a fundraiser going on. The fundraiser is a basket raffle. If you plan to buy tickets, the money will go to the PAFM club, where we use it to hold more events and buy lunch for conferences like this. I hope to see everyone there!

My workout split

My main form of physical activity primarily comes from lifting weights. On Monday, I focus on the chest and arms. Monday's are usually when I pick the flat bench as my compound lift. On Tuesday, I focus on legs, mainly the quadriceps region. On Wednesdays, I do lifts that target my back and shoulders. Every week, I alternate dumbbell shoulder press and machine shoulder press. On Thursdays, I do chest and biceps, but this is the day I do the incline barbell bench for my compound lift. On Fridays, I do legs again but focus on hamstrings and glutes. My compound lift that day is a barbell back squat.

Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important concept for anyone in the Health Education or health care fields. Eating the right foods will improve your body functions and your mental processes. Additionally, drinking the right amount of water will help your body run smoothly and help you not become dehydrated which can severely impact your lifestyle. The amount of calories you eat in a day entirely depends on your goals. If you plan to gain or lose weight in a healthy way, try using a tracker app that tracks the amount of macronutrients and micronutrients you consume in a day. I use My Fitness Pal  and it works great for my goals.

Athletic Training Goals

For my career, I plan on becoming an athletic trainer. An athletic trainer is a healthcare professional who specializes in the prevention and treatment of injuries, typically for physically active people. My goal is to work with professional or division one-level sports. I have been working with the Slippery Rock football team since my freshman year in college. It has been a great experience and I wouldn't wish for anything else. To become an Athletic Trainer, you need to go to graduate school. My choices are either Penn State or staying at SRU because this will give me the best opportunity for networking and gaining the right experience.
